Dr. Mladen Sokolovic was born and grew up in Bosnia and Herzegovina in former Yugoslavia. He received his medical degree from Medical School, University in Belgrade in Serbia in 2002. He relocated to the USA in 2003 and did an Internal Medicine residency at New York Methodist Hospital and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
In 2010, he joined Surgical Critical Care Service at Medstar Washington Hospital Center, the largest teaching hospital in the Washington metro area, as a surgical intensivist and faculty in Surgery Residency and Surgical Critical Care fellowship programs. During seven years at Medstar, he gained extensive experience in caring for critically ill cardiac surgery, trauma, and neurosurgical patients. He served on multiple departmental, hospital, and health system committees. He was awarded the Keystone Educator Award three times in recognition of excellence in resident education.
Dr. Sokolovic also served as the Medical Director of the ECMO program for three years. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at multiple national conferences. Dr. Sokolovic moved to Austin to be closer to family that live in the area. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with my family, cycling, soccer, and cooking. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Neurocritical Care.
